# Reinsurance Treaty Claim Reporting When a claim exceeds the company's retention threshold, the Finance Team reports it to the Reinsurance team, who verify it against the applicable reinsurance treaty. The Reinsurance team first confirms the claim qualifies under treaty terms, then submits a recovery request to the reinsurer, then tracks payment in the Policy Administration System. Policy requires all claims over $100,000 to be reported to Reinsurance within 10 business days of the loss becoming known. In practice, the Finance Team usually flags likely large claims to Reinsurance early, well before the claim is fully adjusted, so there are no surprises near the deadline. Catastrophe-related claims are reported to Reinsurance regardless of size, as an exception to the standard $100,000 threshold.
