# Policy Renewal and Rate Adjustment Sixty days before a policy's renewal date, the Policy Administration System automatically flags it for review. The Underwriting Team then checks the policyholder's claims history over the prior term and recalculates the premium. If the policyholder had no claims, the Underwriting Team applies the standard renewal rate with no increase. If the policyholder had one or more at-fault claims, the Underwriting Team applies a rate increase per the Claims Surcharge Policy. Policy requires renewal notices to be sent to policyholders at least 30 days before the renewal date. In practice, the Underwriting Team usually sends notices closer to 45 days out, to give agents time to reach out to policyholders about rate changes. Policyholders who dispute a rate increase can request a review from a Senior Underwriter, which is an exception to the standard renewal process.
