# Claims Subrogation Recovery Process

After a claim is paid where another party was at fault, the Claims Team refers the case to the Subrogation Unit for recovery.

The Subrogation Unit first identifies the at-fault party's insurer, then submits a demand for reimbursement, then tracks recovery in the Claims Management System.

Policy requires subrogation demands to be submitted within 60 days of claim payment, to avoid statute of limitations issues. In practice, the Subrogation Unit tries to submit within 30 days whenever fault is clear-cut, since faster demands tend to recover a higher percentage.

Claims under $1,000 are not pursued for subrogation, per the Minimum Recovery Threshold Policy — the administrative cost isn't worth it below that amount.
